《司岗里：佤山回响》讲述了云南西盟人“司岗里乐队”队长老由（汤仲尉）将佤族民间音乐改编为流行音乐的历程，以及在此过程中他对于音乐文化变迁的思考。影片进一步探讨了主人公的音乐创作的过程，展示了他通过何种方式从传统的音乐元素中获取灵感，并将其转化为具有民族内涵的流行音乐。老由认为，民族音乐和民族文化是流行音乐创作的根本，只有深刻的习得民族文化，音乐创作才具有了“根”，才具有了能量。
The film adopts a perspective of Ethnomusicology and participatory observation to narrate the story of Lao You, the captain of the "Siganglih Band" in Yunnan province, who adapted the traditional folk music of the Wa ethnic group into popular music, and his reflections and exploration of the roots of Wa culture. It showcases the collision and fusion of local popular music and folk music culture in Yunnan.
