中国陇南地区有一磨坝峡，峡谷河水清澈倏有小鱼。年近七旬的老汉望喜可谓是世界上最执着的人，为了寻找隐藏在地下的金子，几个月来，他竟在岩石质地的河堤上挖了一个足足有五六米深的岩洞。他将一背篼一背篼的沙石从坚实的岩砂石上凿下来，以缓慢的步伐支撑着从洞里出来，再将砂石倒入升斗里，一遍一遍的洗。每洗一遍，老人都要眯着眼睛仔仔细细的看，生怕遗漏了一丁点儿金子。运气好的一天，或许背上两三背篼的沙石就可以从中淘出针尖大的金子，伸出手将这小金子粘在食指肚上，小心翼翼的放到他自制的小竹管里。而运气不好的时候，或许忙活上一两天，也捡不到半点金子。但老人深信，这条清澈的河水底下一定有金子。每天清早他便穿着雨鞋，拿着斗升，拿着放大镜去为他的梦想而奋斗。夏收小麦不好，老人看着三十年来种植的刚有收益的核桃树却满眼惆怅，不久这里将要修建一座水库，这或许意味着老人将要失去家园。
