About Apus 雨燕

Apus雨燕 is an independent literary magazine and creators’ community with a globally based team and roots in the Bay Area. Named after the swift, a migratory bird, It focuses on the diasporic experience, exploring themes of identity, cultural conflict, and memory. Scattered across the world, we are drawn together by a shared love of literature and art. Home lingers in the spaces between words, in the shadows of ink, in the weight of paper. With Apus, we craft a small sanctuary, inscribed with the traces of time and space.

Issue 01|Time

The inaugural issue of Apus 雨燕 takes Time as its theme.

Time is intangible yet everywhere. It shapes growth, memory, creation, and loss. It moves silently through our lives, carrying away what we try to preserve, while leaving behind traces of transformation.

In this first issue, writers and artists from different places and backgrounds respond to time through fiction, poetry, and visual works. Their pieces move through the silent corridors of Kyoto, the distant river of Cà Lệnh, sunlit corners of California, and bustling cities across China.

Together, these works do not attempt to resist time. Instead, they observe its flow, record its disappearance, and imagine how we might live alongside it.

Like a small flower cast into a moving current, this issue believes in the beauty of fleeting ripples, transient moments, and the fragile shimmer of things that almost vanish.

Editorial Vision

Apus resists the rush of commodified narratives.

It lingers.
It listens.

The writing gathered here does not seek permanence, but resonance: a brief flicker of something true that may echo in the reader’s own life.

In a world where nothing holds still, Apus asks a quiet but persistent question:

What does it mean to be human, here and now?

An Invitation

We invite you to pause with us.
To turn the page.
To let these voices ripple through your own river of time.

If they leave behind even the faintest shimmer, then Apus 雨燕 has done what it came to do.
